(sa) puṇḍarīka, the lotus, especially the white lotus, (la) Numphoea alba; (sa) padma, especially the (la) Nelumbium speciosum; (sa) utpala, the (la) Nymphoea coerulea, the blue lotus; (sa) kumuda, (la) Nymphoea esculenta, white lotus, or (la) N. rubra, red lotus; (sa) nīlotpala, (la) N. cyanea, a blue lotus. The first four are called white, red, blue, and yellow lotuses; but the white lotus is generally meant unless otherwise specified.
